Hi, I’m Erin Bunn!  I’m the veggie farmer here at Bunn's Backyard Farm.  In addition to being a farmer, I'm also a certified health & life coach. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Kansas State University and received my coaching certifications from the Health Coach Institute. Prior to becoming a farmer & coach, I worked for more than 15 years in social services, including community mental health, adoption and home visitation with families who were pregnant or had very young children.

One day, I found out I had high cholesterol and the doctor wanted me to start taking medication. I was 36 and overall pretty healthy, so it didn’t seem fair. I felt so many emotions, including sadness, fear and anger.

I took all of those feelings and used them as fuel to motivate me. I made changes but did it in a way that didn’t make me feel deprived and also fit my busy lifestyle being a mom and working full time. I successfully lowered my cholesterol without medication! Not only that, I felt better than I ever had!

That was when I realized I weirdly enjoyed the process and in fact, I enjoyed it so much I wanted to help others do the same. So, after more than 15 years working in social services, I left to become self-employed as a health coach & veggie farmer. I’m able to use not only my formal training, but also my own life experience plus many years of working with people to help others change their lives as a coach and help them access higher quality foods as a farmer.

My husband, Nate, is also self-employed. He's owned a lawn care service in Independence since 2012 and also teaches guitar lessons.  His band, The Caddywhompus Band, plays locally and has music on Spotify, which is linked below.

In our free time, we enjoy music, family, nature, chickens, dogs, food...you know, the usual. :)
